Nagpur: He missed his third century by 16 runs at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. He scored 84 runs in 35 balls, hitting five fours and eight sixes. Abhishek reached the century in just 22 balls. This was his seventh half-century in T20Is. The 25-year-old batsman may have missed the century but managed to create a world record.
In fact, Abhishek has become the player with the most number of fifty-plus scores in 25 or less balls in T20 International cricket. He has achieved this feat eight times so far. He surpassed Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, English cricketer Phil Salt, and West Indies batsman Evin Lewis. All three players have reached the 50-run mark in 25 balls or less seven times in their careers.
Abhishek has become the fastest Indian cricketer to score a fifty against New Zealand in T20Is. He broke the record held by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. Rohit scored a half-century in 23 balls in Hamilton in 2020. Rahul also scored a fifty in 23 balls against New Zealand in Auckland in 2020. Abhishek is third on the list of fastest Indians to score a fifty in T20Is. He scored a fifty in 17 balls against England in 2025.
Abhishek batted at a strike rate of 240.00 in Nagpur. He has scored six fifty-plus scores at a strike rate of over 200. He is the second player for India to score the most fifty-plus scores at a strike rate of over 200 in T20 Internationals. He surpassed his "guru" Yuvraj Singh, who achieved this five times in his career. Suryakumar Yadav (10) tops the list.
